Maxwell C. Losgar ’12 chose Shenandoah University because of the people in its tight-knit community. During his time at the university, he enjoyed the main stage musicals, designing costumes for the children’s theater productions and being a member of Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society.
Losgar is an entertainment director at Hearst Magazines. In this position, he oversees the editorial bookings for Cosmopolitan and Women’s Health. He was also the entertainment director at Marie Claire until the brand was sold in May 2021.
Losgar has contributed to other Hearst titles, including Delish, Elle, Men’s Health and Seventeen. At Hearst, Losgar was awarded a 2022 Spotlight Award for his outstanding achievements at the company, and completed their Leadership Development Program in partnership with Harvard Business Publishing.
In 2017, he was nominated for the National Magazine Award for his work casting and booking a television portfolio called “The Breakout Bunch” for the October 2016 issue of Vanity Fair in partnership with Snapchat. The feature starred 12 young actors including Yara Shahidi, Tyler Posey, Kat McNamara, and others.
“With an extensive rolodex of publicists, managers and agents on speed dial in Hollywood, New York and London, I have built a strong reputation for casting and securing a wide range of celebrities, models and influencers for top-tier print and digital media companies worldwide,” said Losgar. “I am well-versed in spearheading projects ranging from the conceptualization of magazine covers and editorial portfolios to programming summits and curating guest lists for exclusive soirées.”
Prior to his current position, Losgar worked for Allure, Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, Gay Times, Glamour, GQ, GQ Style, Self, Teen Vogue, Out, Vanity Fair and Vogue.
One of the most rewarding experiences Losgar has had in his career was booking Nicole Kidman for an Allure cover and getting to meet and work with her at the shoot in Cabo, Mexico. A close second was his work on another Allure cover shoot with Rihanna in London.
Losgar believes his Shenandoah education helped mold his professional outlook by strengthening his interpersonal skills and challenging his creative thinking process.
Losgar’s advice to current students is: “No one asks for your GPA in the real world. Stop stressing, step out of your comfort zone whenever possible and HAVE FUN. Become friends with people outside of your major and make sure to take advantage of all the free cultural experiences the conservatory offers to students.”
