Jon Bannan ’14 is actively pursuing a higher education. Currently, he is working on his Master of Art History degree at Millersville University of Pennsylvania. In the fall of 2017, he will begin his PhD in History.
Bannan’s decision to attend Shenandoah was two-fold. He met several history professors on a visit and felt he would fit into the department well. As a further motivator, Bannan was able to play on SU’s football team. Being a student at SU helped him focus on his passion of history while also allowing him to build diverse friendships that ultimately helped provide him with a well-rounded foundation.
Through his work with the National Museum of Bermuda, Bannan had the opportunity to conduct research. “The most rewarding experience I have had in my career was the opportunity to go to Bermuda to research the American Civil War. There, I was able to research operations of the U.S. Navy to stop smuggling.”
Bannan’s advice to current students is: “Take advantage of the historically rich area that surrounds Shenandoah. The wealth of information and ability to really get hands-on experience is unparalleled.”
